Hornady Reloading Manual Question

Hi All, first of all I want to give my thanks to all of you for all the great input to a great site. You're all outstanding and entertaining. Recently, I decided to begin the process of learning to reload. I've starting reading the ABC's of Reloading, and my copy of Lyman's 49th should be arriving at my door in a couple of days. This weekend, though, I found a copy of Hornady's Handbook of Cartridge Reloading, 6th Ed. Vol 2, at a thrift store for a couple of bucks so I picked it up. I realize that Vol 1 has the reloading data, so I've been searching for it. Kind of tough to find just Vol 1. Looked on ebay, Amazon, etc. but it's a no go. Does anyone out there know a place that may carry that volume? If not then does anyone out there need Volume 2 to complete their collection? Thanks again.

The 2 volumes have always been sold as a set.

I agree, I think they are almost always sold together.

Thanks guys. I knew that they were as I've only seen them sold in sets. I guess the person that gave up this volume was only interested in keeping the other. I was also hoping someone out there knew of or had Vol 1(only) available or needed Vol 2 to complete their set. Still good info. Couldn't pass on it for a couple of bucks.

I believe they dropped the second book with the latest revision (7th Edition) and now point people to their ballistic calculators online.

For what it's worth, I would keep that second book on your loading bench if you plan to buy the new Hornady book. The online tools are great for tailoring the ballistics to your specific load (including non Hornady bullets if you've got the BC), but sometimes it's handy to have a rough idea of what you'll get when you're putting a load together. On the other hand, if you've got a web enabled computer at your loadbench, the book probably doesn't offer much.

I don't think Hornady makes books anymore, just a loading magazine IIRC. Supposedly too many changes to accurately keep up with. You can pick up their magazine at just about any magazine rack (ie: B&N and Borders). Excellent reading about different calibers and loads too.

i have the new 7th edition hornady and it has only one book. it does have some pretty nice pics and descriptions of the firing process- which was really cool as a new reloader to help me understand what happens. my suggestion is to get as many manuals as you can get your hands on. it never hurts to have additional sources....

It would also have been nice if Hornady had edited out the references to volume 2 when they produced the 7th edition. For those of us who didn't have a previous Hornady manual it is...confusing.
