    7.62x39 AK ammo

    I just ordered a new Century AK47 and I was wondering which brand of AK rounds are best or if I should stay away from anything in particular??
    Thanx!

    Wolf should work just fine. Nice and cheap and dirty
    God, grant me the serenity
    To accept the things I cannot change;
    The courage to change the things I can;
    And the wisdom to know the difference.

      It depends on where you are planning to shoot. If you are going to use the ammo at a public range, you need to check their rules before you just buy ammo. Most ranges won't let you shoot bullets that attract a magnet for much or all of the year. As far as getting accurate ammo goes, it's just an AK so, IMHO, the quality of the ammo won't make that much difference. If you get 3-4moa you'll be doing good with it. I have a few thousand rounds of Yugo surplus that shoots fine, doesn't attract a magnet and wasn't too expensive.

        Wolf is perfectly fine. Silver Bear is good too. Be carefuly with Brown Bear, it has lacquer coated cases and can gum up your chamber after a while. Just gotta keep it clean though.

            Pretty much all modern commercial ammo for the AK is perfectly fine to use, just avoid modern brass cased rounds. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! But they work just fine.

            As for avoiding certain rounds, that really only matters dealing with surplus ammo. Any AK surplus ammo is going to be somewhat corrorive. Chinese I hear is nasty, corrosive and dirty as sin. Russian is awesome, just gotta watch the corrosion. That pretty much goes for all surplus, gotta watch the corrosive aspect. I'm sure someone who knows more about surplus will chime in with some specific ammo that isn't very good to shoot.

              Commercial, boxer primed, brass cased, 7.62x39 is more expensive the first time you use the brass. But, if you reload, it'll actually save you money in the long run.

              Surplus, berdan primed, brass cased, 7.62x39 can be found for the same price as steel cased stuff and sometimes even less.
