need load data for .458 SOCOM / CFE BLK

    .458 SOCOM / CFE BLK / 350gr Berry

    Thanks!

For that same bullet I use either Lil' Gun or RE-7.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

If I had either of those powders I probably would.

I looked in my library to see what I could find. BLK should be able to do the job, unfortunately I can't find any load info for the BerB 350gr. (my fav for plinking). I did find in the 2022 Hogdon manual for a 350 gr Swift AF/HP with CFE BLK:

        34.3 gr = 1544 fps
        37.5 gr = 1688 fps.

I have 2 of these monsters, an 18" with rifle gas and a 16" with carbine gas. I find that they both function best when loaded on the heavy side as gas goes fast in these big bore guns. The new Lyman AR manual has a 458 SOCOM section and has the 350gr BerB, just no CFE BLK.

Yeah, I've seen those numbers for the Swift and have been playing with loads in that range with the Berry's... so far so good (although min value was clearly borderline). What is interesting is I've seen data posted by someone on another site with data in the +40gr range, hence my interest to see what quickload might show.

Of course, "why don't you slowly build up and find out?" is a reasonable question, but my understanding is that 458 SOCOM by the time you start seeing flat primers you're way way past safe pressures.

The Nosler book has some 458 data for their 300gr BT. They get it cook'n right along at 1900+fps.

That 350 gr BerB is fun. I shoot it at cat litter jugs full of water with the lid glued on at 100 yds. It blows it into 3 pieces with the lid still attached.

Now, if you're ever in the Livermore area...
