Need help evaluating first set of ocw test

I have done first ocw testing using 1 bullet with 2 types of powder . And need some help with where to go from here . In past , I just picked very tightest group out of the test and been reading more depth into about ocw test and it made me think twice about my procedure and if I'm doing it wrong way , I like to fix it .

My goal for this rifle is maximum 300 yards .
I do have magentospeed sporter , but I tried to do ocw and velocity test together , but I ditched due to poi changes with it installed and can't really trust accuracy with it

Here's the target . And fired brass

Accuracy is one thing, but the nitty gritty delves into SD,ES, seating depth and velocity. If you have a pretty good consistant powder distribution, all the parameters above come into play.

IMO take the most accurate set and track the parameters, which you seem to have done at some point as you stated you had a magnetospeed, so you seem like you already know about what goes into finding that right combo. MS, if you don't have an external mounting ability, does change POI so you were smart to change the set up, but you need to use both in combination to answer your questions.

Low SD and good accuracy would require messing with the seating depth to tighten it up, in one scenario. Post some of your findings if you could so we know what you are working with.

I did pick out few strings from above and made 8 rds each to test for velocity .

Just not sure if I need to test for more accuracy looking at those nodes

The question I have is .. should I look for 2 or 3 strings that very similar and load the middle string and test for velocity with seating depth ? I have read that i shouldn't just go for one that has tightest group .

Yeah, you are doing it wrong. It's not Velocity or SD related. It's not 8-10 rounds....It's based on 3 rounds and the Point of Impact in relation to Point of Aim.

        Here, follow the directions:

You can look at velocity and smallest SD, then adjust seating depth to get the tightest groups. One issue is everything may look "good" at 100yds and figuring out the best may be difficult.

Or just shoot 10 rounds of varied charges, pick the tightest and move forward. Even at 600yds, a less-than-ideal SD is not that big of an issue.

If this is for a gun that you want to shoot at longrange with, your best testing will be to a ladder test AT longrange.
1 shot at each charge weight in 0.1gr steps for about a 2gr range centered around where you think your best accuracy is.
Then look for a group of 3-4 shots that are real close together vertically as those are the shots that left the barrel closest to the node.

The best way to do it is a place with pits and a buddy that can mark your shots.
I have also done them out in the desert with a buddy downrange near the target that walks over to the target after each shot.

One of the beauties of electronic targets is their ability to track and mark targets. Santa Margarita Gun Club uses Solo/silver mountain and Shotmarker systems.

I bought a shotmarker target system because: I hate walking down range, I have no friends and my grand son is to smart to stand downrange while I'm shooting.

Of what you have posted 32.9 is where I would start and now play with your seating depth.

There is no need to have someone down range. Buy some Sharpie permanent colored markers and color the bullets. Record which color was used on which cartridge. Use Q-tips with alcohol on the bullet holes in the target and you can determine which cartridge was responsible for each hole.

Staples stocks Sharpie permanent colored markers. A pack of various colors costs about $12.
