Ammo from Walmart

Off and on, I have been calling the Walmarts near me for the last 5 months late at night to find 9mm and .22cal. I've only been lucky once in awhile on the .22. They usually tell me they just sold the last boxes of 9mm 5 minutes before I called.

Well, yesterday afternoon I got lucky. I called the one in Temecula and they had 6 boxes of Federal 9mm (50 rounds) @ $8.97. They held 6 for me (6 box limit). On the way down there, I called the Murrieta store and they had the same thing. I picked those up on the way to the Temecula store.

So, I scored 600 rounds of 9mm for $117! Got the last 6 at each store for that day. It was actually a little less expensive than buying the WWB of 100 rounds at $19.97.

I'm now back up to 1000 rounds of 9mm. I realize that isn't much by some of you guy's standards, but I'm on a limited income being retired. It's not like I can work some OT to pay for it.

Just thought I'd mention this in case anyone is trying to get ammo from them; keep on trying.

If you are retired, learn to reload. I can load 12 boxes for $36-$40. If you only load 9mm, look into a Dillon Square Deal B, used or new. My .02

At one time I had thought about reloading f4tweet, but my mechanical abilities are sorely lacking. I would be concerned about doing something incorrectly and damaging my firearm or more importantly, myself.

Also, I read a post once on some forum, that you really don't save any money by reloading because now that you can make your own ammo cheaper, you shoot a lot more and really end up spending more.. I don't know if that is true or not, but I thought I'd mention it.

If I understand correctly, the main advantages is be able to load the ammo to your own specifications and if you compete, it would be a savings. I'm not interested in the first and don't do the latter.

I do appreciate your suggestion tho and if I'm incorrect in what I have written, please correct me. Thanks.

The best idea is to take an NRA Reloading Class. Then pair up with a buddy and have him help you for a while. I did, it worked. If you can use/learn the basics of a good pair of calipers and scale, you're in business. After you start loading to your specs, and enjoying the satisfaction, and shoot more for the same cost, you might be happy. Square deal B in 9mm is a great way to start. I guess I will have to look for a local NRA class then in the Temecula/Murrieta area.

I actually found that site prior to you posting the link. Would you please answer a question: Where is that place located. I looked everywhere on the site and never could find the exact loc. Perhaps I missed it, but they must have hid it really well.

I just figured that my 40S&W reloads for my USPSA shooting using lead bullets and powder and primers from old group buys, costs me 9.8 cents per round. ($4.90 per box)

At present day prices it will be 12 cents per round or $6.00 per box

Brass is salvage from factory loads that I bought previously and range pick ups after matches (get a nut wizard, it saves the back) so that is free

Thanks. I saw the mailing address, but it said that wasn't the actual loc. Perris isn't all that far from me as I live in French Valley (which is a fancy name for Winchester).

Bah, I'd be happy if I only spent the same amount of money. I spend a lot more money but I shoot five to ten times more.

i used to think that was crazy talk but its so true

i used to go out shooting a box or 2 now i shoot a bag or too

and a box was 50 and my bag is 100(cause primers come in 100)


now that i make them i dont like bumpfiring anymore
