30-06 trimmed length

Hello: I am just starting to reload 30-06. Just finished sizing a batch of shells and I took 5 of them and they measure

One of my books says case trim length 2.484. Other books I have show the max (all my other books) to be 2.494. What is an acceptable trim length??

2.484” is the “trim to” length per Lyman.

If it were me, I would trim a few of those cases down a bit. They might be okay as long as your overall length is under 3.340" after you load them, but I would try to stick between 2.484" and 2.494" for the case itself.

Saami states up to 0.20 shorter is fine. Longer as a rule of thumb is not ok. Don’t trim them in half but you’ll be safe at 2.484-2.494

Just use Lee trimmer rod.

Trim them to the length of your shortest case. I loaded some this morning and used out of the box Lapua 30-06 brass unsized and untouched.
54 grains of H4350 a 180 grain TTSX bullet at 3.365 inches and they shot so well i didnt bother shooting any of the 55 56 or 57 grain loads i made up.
That is 0.125 longer than the book says and almost 0.070 off of the lands plus they fed out of the magazine on an old Husqvarna
