I shipped some ammo to myself from another state a few year ago to Calif. via UPS. When it arrived one box was missing but showed up the next day even though it was all shipped together. When it arrived it seemed rather light and then I noticed a cut in the box that was all taped up. When I opened it, I was missing 500 rounds of 9mm. I immediately contacted UPS about the loss and they assured me that they DONT ship ammo. I had a receipt and all the documentation to validate my claim. To make a long story short, I went through several days of back and forth with UPS to no avail. My parting words on our last call was "I'll just go ahead and call the ATF office and let them investigate this matter" I'm sure they would be interested in what someone might do with 500 rounds of 9mm. The next day they sent me a check for my loss. NEVER will I ever send anything firearm related through UPS. Thats all

they "lost" one of my 50bmg rifles. The manufacture and I both got the run-around BS until the manufacture informed them that they were getting the ATF involved. It was a miracle that all of a sudden they found it in Chicago(which was not even on the route it should have gone on) and it had been used so the manufacture redid it for me. The next time I got it quickly.

Theft or purposely not delivering. As a prosecutor (im not) I would want to know where the ammo is, is it getting in the hands of bad guys or is it in a warehouse somewhere being stored and kept from anyone getting it. Those are the only 2 explanations./

Because customers’ orders don’t always seem to make it to their doors — especially when delivering with UPS. In fact, he says out of 18,000 rounds of ammunition shipped through UPS, only a third were actually delivered. That's a lot of ammo to go missing. So, where is it?

11.8k rounds missing? Out of a few million shipped that day? That's not a lot to go missing at all. That's basically nothing.

While a small amount in the big scheme of things, it is very odd that this particular shipper is experiencing such a high rate of loss. I am curious about his packaging- somebody else commented that the packaging advertises that it is ammo. Not a good idea to let everybody know what's in the box, and I also wonder if his packaging methods are good enough for shipping heavy, dense items such as ammo. Many shippers really scrimp on the packaging materials and end up having their packages bust open.

I had fedex deliver a HUGE table to my house and refuse to come pick it up despite it being the wrong address and wrong name. It happens, its not news. The article title grossly misleads like UPS is losing 2/3rds of all ammo shipped or something ridiculous.

Its entirely possible that stores specific UPS driver steals stuff. That also happens. A few phone calls and probably firing an employee or two is likely in order. An entire blaze article about it? Some big fud right there.

I'm no fan of conspiracy theories. If there's no proof, don't even waste my time.

I can easily see rogue employees stealing merchandise, especially ammunition given how scarce it's been the last few years. A few bad apples and all that. Bad apples screw the pooch for everyone else. We used to get wine delivered here and it's as susceptible to theft as ammunition. We never had to report a "lost" shipment.

On the other hand, it's highly improbably UPS would refuse to transport firearms and ammunition as a matter of policy so long as the shipment conforms to applicable law.
