    Brass

So I was at my local indoor range today and a husband and wife were in the lane next to me. When they left I looked over cause I'm a brass whore and saw a pile of 38's on the ground. Of course I picked them up and got a bunch of winchester and starline brass. It looked like new brass and most reloading folks don't leave behind 38's. I have not bought factory ammo in forever and my question is do any ammo manufacturers use starline brass? Thanks for any responses.

Yes, Underwood for one uses Starline.

I'm sure there are others. As well as commercial local reloaders.

Those two brass manufacture band names have been recently counterfeited by our buddies in the far East.

Best just to pack up all suspected 38 Special cases and send them directly to me without delay, and I will
properly dispose them. You know, just to safe.

Well Mr. Hambam I'm a gambling man and I'm gonna take that risk and say they are good for atleast one more loading but maybe after that I'll think about it.

I've been safely recovering & harvesting unwanted brass for a 20 years or so.

More than likely, I will be continuing the activity for another 20 years. Afterwards I'll reconsider how much longer I should go.

            Good score..

I would have never guessed that Starline brass was used by another ammo manufacturer..

It does make sense because most use it for reloading and your nextdoor shooters would have picked it up if they reloaded...

I just got 500x 10mm and 200x 45 LC new Starline brass. It was a good score for me.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Starline started life making cases for ammo manufacturers. They just found a niche in the market and came up with there own brand name. But that was a very long time ago.

I have always wondered about picking up brass at the range. What is the etiquette? Is that allowed?

Ask the range manager, some will let you and some won't. My private outdoor range says what's on the ground is open season, amazing what you can find at times by checking empty shooting bays.

They could have been range reloads. Or reloads bought from somewhere else.

Being cheap has its own issues. Being the son of parents living through the Great Depression salvaging is firmly ingrained in my makeup. Still I must recognize common sense and the effect of risk.

Buffalo Bore used Starline for a while. Not sure if they have their own headstamp these days.

Being a brass whore is a hallowed and most honorable tradition. Consider that you are saving the landfills from all that metallic poison! You are helping the environment by recycling! Is this not to be encouraged? I say, YES!

So, to borrow from Denis Leary:

                          I'm a brass whore (He's a brass whore, what a brass whore!)
                          I'm a brass whore (He's a brass whore, such a brass whore!)
                          I'm a brass whore (He's a brass whore, what a brass whore!)
I'm a brass whore (He's the world's biggest brass whore!)

It is the liberal thing to do, you know....
And since we're conserving brass, it's also the conservative thing to do, too!

                          EVERYBODY WINS! LET'S GET RELOADING!!

At $60-120/5 gal bucket, I'd assume that most ranges would recycle it.

One of the in-door ranges here in Reno states, if it touches the ground it's ours.
