    Stuff that you can't get

What upsets me as an old guy with a limited lifespan is all the neat stuff that is out there but currently unavailable. I feel like a kid on a diet in the middle of a candy shop.

Good idea! Make a list and put it on Cal Guns! Thank you for the idea. I'm working on it now.

Naw, nothing illegal, just precision. How perfect can I make it? That's the goal.

I do not know, there are many reloaders that talk about it and then there are reloaders that do it. My dies and presses have threads, I have gages, transfers and feeler gages, it does not have to be expensive to give me precision.

I hear you. The quest for precision is an addiction. A ton of work for a minuscule gain. Then again when you are old and off the battlefield what else is there to do? My wife disagrees of course.

Then again when you are old and off the battlefield
I called a friend that was involved in a head space controversy on another forum years ago., I was in his shop to purchase a mill. The subject of head space came up, I asked him if he was involved in a gun forum. That was when he informed me of all of the hostility, he was experiencing.

No one could tell him the length of his chamber, and no one could explain how to check the length of the chamber. He had 20+ head space gages for the 30/06, I told him "This is your lucky day' I told him I can measure the length of the chamber 3 different ways without a head space gage. I told him I could modify a go-gage to a go to infinity gage. With a go to infinity gage, he could put all of his gages away in a drawer.

I checked the length of his 03 1911 Rock Island build for free, his chamber length from the datum to the bolt face was .002" longer than the length of a go-gage. After that he wanted a bolt that would reduce the length of the chamber from the datum to the bolt face by .002". Between the both of us we had 135 03/03A3 bolts, between both of us we did not have a bolt that would reduce the lengt5h of the chamber .002". I offered to measure all of his bolts for their ability to reduce the length of the chamber. I made it clear, we would not find a bolt that would reduce the length of the chamber by .002".

He called the expert of the forum, he sent him 5 bolts with straight handles, I was not asked to measure the bolts for comparison. Anyhow, I have lost 4 friends that have died to old age. I called this old friend? to check on him and his family, he remembered everything and everybody but me. I asked about another old friend, he did not remember him. My wife got involved, she checked the obituaries, there it was Jim Stacey died over a year ago.

I have 8 projects I have promised, I do not have any old friends I trust so it comes down to me, my wife teaches school, if I live long enough, I can wait until she goes back to school in the fall. Most of the projects involve threading some very heavy barrels.

                  enjoyed the chat.

My wife taught for 40-50 years. At the end she worked in the County orphanage with severely injured kids. I have been in a firefight the last ten years. Now that its over I am free and I want to learn again. I would like you as a friend.
