How's the recoil?Comment

My 300PRC MPR feels like it has slightly less kick than my 308 shooting 175gr match ammo. The factory brake is really effective but anyone sitting on either side will hate you due to the concussion.Comment

Will know the recoil Saturday. Sighting with a lead sled. But will take shots off the shoulder as well.
Looking for H1000. Those are impressive velocities!
Will try to space myself away from everyone if I can. [emoji38]

I finally found lapua brass and got it delivered last week. I have 2lbs of LRT im going to try and saving the 2lbs of retumbo for now. I will be loading 225 pills but interested in your results please keep us updated. it looks like for me ill be starting around 83 gr and working up.
If anyone has leads on h1000, rl26 or more retumbo please let me know"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty."

Loaded up 300 PRC for first time
I did 85 grains of LRT behind 212 grain bullets for breakin.
Accurate load as break in progressed.
But blew a few primers. Definitely to hot.
Was delivering 2850-2900 fps. So not crazy velocities. Maybe the brand new barrel helped make more pressure?
Going to try same bullet with 78, 80, and 82 grains of LRT tomorrow.
And loaded some 190 Ggrain bullets I loaded with 83, 86, and 89 grains of LRT.
Lowest loads are about 5% below the minimums I could find. And highest only reach midrange. But I think my gun may develop more pressure than others.
Will post velocities after my session.
Anyone try an similar loads?

The updates to the 300 PRC, particularly the throat, have a lot of good things going for them. The latest cartridge dimensions don't leave as much neck clearance as they used to. This creates a situation where both the reamer and case manufacture can be right, but you still get pressure spikes.
If the rifle has too tight a bore for those solids, the bullets just won't work in that gun.
I used R26 and 225 ELDm to break in my 300 PRC RPR barrel. Those were my least valuable components that would work in the gun. I think it's worth getting some rounds down factory barrels. The first several rounds in a new barrel might be 100 fps slow and using the same load lets you figure out when the groups open up because it needs to be cleaned. After 100 rounds of the break in load, the RPR barrel was still speeding up and I needed to lower the charge again at 150 and 200 rounds. Loading up boxes of 50 of the same thing, then shooting them with a chrono and for groups will give a better perspective on the rest of your testing.
What is your barrel length and twist?Comment

LRT is too slow of a powder for the PRC. It's designed to be used in the 300gr bullets in Lapua class cases... it's slower than RL33.
Get RL26 or H1000 and you will get more velocity. No need to break it in, do a proper OCW test and you should be GTG.
Short and sweet

Post your barrel length and load data. I'll return some QL runs that'll hit the high points of what's going on.
I think you'll have much better luck with the Magnum than the LRT, but the LRT wasn't the pressure problem.Comment
