    BENCHREST PRIMERS IN SEMI-AUTO...

finally decided to take the .308 AR out for its maiden voyage to the range. i've been reloading several of my bolt action .308 - mostly with BR-2s for load development. should i be worried about slam fire using BR-2s in an AR?
i dont really care about loading via the magazine- i can single load from the ejection port, however i'll still most likely have to let the charging handle release with full tension against it- ramming the bullet into the chamber... any suggestions...

When handloading for my .308 & 06 auto loaders(M1-A,Garand and SR-25) I prep my cases using the RCBS primer pocket uniformer. I chuck it in a variable speed drill(on the slowest setting in a padded vise). You'd be surprised how some primer pockets needed to be squared. I make sure after priming, checking all of cases to see the primers are seated .005" below flush.

It is always stressed on the M-1A's and Garands to NEVER single load a round in the chamber and let the full force of the bolt fly. Garand shooters use SLEDS and M1-A shooters load using a magazine. I've read articles that you can single load, but ease the bolt 1/2 forward and let it go.

Just as a precaution, I NEVER single load my SR-25 without loading from the magazine. I always use a magazine to load and chamber a round.

I don't use BR2's in my autoloaders, that's just personal choice. I believe you might get some better accuracy with the BR2's in a very accurate L/R bolt gun, but I don't think you'd see any substantial improvement in a .308 AR.

I've put about 1500 rds. down the tube of my SR-25 using just about all of the current factory match loadings and some handloads with out any problem.

If you don't have other primers, P M me. I have a pretty good array of L/R primer brands and can give you a few of some other brands to try out.

      thanks for the input 762...
the only reason i asked if using BR primers was ok is because i wanted to see how my pet loads in my bolt action would fly in the AR.
i do recall an article about single loading into an auto-loader and only letting the charging handle fly from halfway...
i'll just make up some new rounds using LR primers and see how it goes. i'm trying to make it back to Coyote Pt on monday....

Let me know how it goes. Maybe I'll break out the SR and meet you there some night.
