296/h110, 11fs, 300-mp. 300-mp is the slowest of those. I've tried capacity loads of 1680 and rl-7 from a 20" barrel and those could not match even mild loads of the magnum pistol powders.

23.5 gr of 296 under a 250-260gr lead bullet should get you about 1550-1600fps at around 22,000 cup. If you use 300-mp it will take about 1.5gr more. 11fs is pretty much the same as 296/h110.

The same load you would use in a Rev. Do not overthink it.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I load a 250 gr bullet over 8.8 gr of Unique. It is a very accurate load and gives me 1150 fps out of a 20" barrel.

          ^^^^this.

My SAAMI loads use Blue Dot.

My "Ruger Only" loads use 110/296.

Slower powders will maximize the velocity gains from the longer barrel if that's desired.

This right here.^^^ You could try some 2400 if you have any with same bullet.
            No reason to hotrod it.

Got to love 2400 behind a 250gr coated RNFP bullet.

Lots of flooding in Yellowstone Tom, was it pretty bad?

I was watching the news - not just flooding, but the road though the north entrance is wiped out in several places. The park is apparently temporarily closed.

Back to .45 Colt...... I actually have a load using AL-5. I have a few tins to use up, so I tried it. Works great on Armadillos out of my Uberti SAA clone!

Ohh, 2400 do work good! I was a week in front of the carnage that hit Yellowstone. Fantastic drive thru the park, into Cody and back thru the next day. Been watching the flooding and damage. Damn glad we were out of there for that! Mark, got a couple of pics of a small grizzly and short video. Want me to send them to you? You can post if you'd like.

                    I think I have a 3lb can of AL-5 to use up.
                    What's your load?

My load is 6 grains under a 200gr SWC. Why a 200gr SWC? Because that's what I had on-hand. It is a very soft shooting load, accurate, and punched pretty holes in the Oklahoma armadillos. Nice round, fluffy primers, so not real pressure to speak of. A bit sooty on the brass, though. 3lbs should be good for about 3,500 rounds. It's going to take you awhile to use it up.

Looking at the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook 3rd Edition, there are a couple other loads mentioned:

                          9gr min 11max for 175gr LRN
                          8gr min 9.6gr max for 250gr LFP

From a 20" barrel 2400 will give about 38-40fps more velocity at the same pressure as aa5, hs6, longshot, 800x and blue dot.

H110, 296, 300-mp, 11fs will give around 235fps more velocity than 2400 at the same pressure, and around 275 more than aa5, hs6, longshot,800x and blue dot. Unique and universal, be-86 cfe pistol will be 40fps slower than those.

Blue dot is very erratic in my experience, with spreads going up to 200fps. I don't like blue dot in 45 colt.

Wow 24” barrel .. that like shooting a silenced gun with a pistol cartridge . My incognito deer load was 300grn flat nose out with 9gn of unique . It was sub sonic out of a 18” levergun and was devastating on the close to
Town blacktails I used to hunt I have some hot ones made up
With h-110 for my Blackhawk in griz country and would think 4227 would be sweet for a heavy rifle load
