Keith would've used reasonable powder if it weren't 1950. That 2400 leaves as much unburnt kernels as burnt ones. 2400 is crap. Use 296, 110, or something newer.

For Special, Unique or any other mid-speed pistol stuff.

2400 is good stuff. I've never had issues with unburned powder. I also have very good results with 700x.

Yes I have, BE86 has been up at PV off and on all week. 2400 and Unique was up once but OOS before I could grab some.

Buddy and I were shooting Desert Eagles, but he also shot a 629. He shot 2400 exclusively. He started reloading in the 1960's, Keith's loads were the standard.

I started with and shot mostly 2400, but also played with H110. Did some low light shooting; H110 made a significant fireball compared to 2400 out of the Desert Eagle 6" barrel. I didn't notice unburnt 2400 in my DE, or when I shot his 629.

Both loads were really accurate at 100 yards.

If you have it, might as well use it. Don't be surprised if it's not the cleanest burning powder you ever saw, and obviously use magnum primers.

Soldiers with short stubby barrels hate 2400

6" or 8 3/8" it burns well


But barrel length is an issue

I have a hand cannon. Ruger with 10+ barrel and a marlin lever gun


I would pick a different powder if I had a 2-3" 44 mag snubby.

Concur, I ran 2400 in my Desert Eagle exclusively. Didn't gum up the works like 110 and 296.

Accurate #7 & #9 are both decent options for 44mag

I have not used Berrys but I’ve had good results with AA#9 and SWC’s. I’ve also loaded some IMR 4227 w/ 240 JHP that looks promising (yet to be verified) based on my reading/reviews.
