I want to purchase one but my issue is my handgaurd basically end where the comp starts. I have a linear comp so there is no ports at all along the sides. Will the magnetospeed mounted on the comp work? It would extend the bayonet about 2 inches further from the end of the barrel and I think they want at least 1/4 inch clearance but know nothing if it has a max distance. What say you all.

Question about Magnetospeed Mounting

Welp I might not have worded it correctly but I bought it anyways. Should mount to the Linear comp fine. Doubt I could mount it furthest on the handgaurd but I'll probably try. Rest of my rifles have plenty of clearance to the muzzle, it was just the 15s. Maybe I'll buy/fabricate something to mount on the outside of the rifle but my first Magnetospeed, let the ladders commence. -
If I'm visualizing this correctly, you have a 16" barrel and a 15" handguard. It should work fine, just mount it on the handguard. The strap can handle some pretty big handguards. They have a pic rail adaptor, but I don't think you'll need it.
The 1/4" part is they want the bullet path to be within 1/4" of the sensor top. They have an aluminum guide rod to help with that. They also have an assortment of risers (which in this case lowers it) for situations where you're mounting to a barrel. But with a handguard mount you'll probably only need the thinnest one or maybe not need one at all.
There's no concern about the sensor being too far forward of the muzzle. The dimensions of the device dictate how far forward it can be. From a ballistic sense, velocity differences at muzzle vs 2" forward of muzzle is insignificant. From a device operating perspective, the sensor just reads velocity over that beam, regardless of how far forward the beam lies. Theoretically if you were a really good shot you could mount the Magnetospeed onto a stand 5 feet away and shoot over that beam, thus giving you the 5 ft velocity. But that's only theoretically.
In fact, since most muzzle devices are more than .75" dia, you'll likely have to mount the beam portion forward of your muzzle device (instead of directly below) to get within that 1/4" distance anyway.---------------------

Yup exactly the situation. Wasn't sure if the strap opened up enough. Reviews have people claiming accuracy issues with harmonics and the MS being attached to it, but then you have some that claim no issues. Handguard mount shoukd eliminate some of it if there is an issue.Comment

Finally took it out and mounting to the linear comp did not register. Had about 3/4 inch gap from the bullet path, had no spacers. Worked perfectly when mounting it to the barrel on my other rifles. Phone app synced perfectly (had to turn the audio full for it to work).Comment
