Inventory and storage

So awhile back I decided to get organized since it had been far too long not.

Went through all the boxes, cans, bags etc did an inventory using a spreadsheet to keep track of everything and to jog my memory of the more oddball stuff I still had.

That took a few days of working to get everything input by caliber, bullet weight and so on. I just recently ordered a bunch of MTM boxes that were on sale at Brownell's so that's the final step sorting and separating the best you can and then labelling the containers.

Eventually I hopefully will have an easy to get to, easy to see what's in that box system. I was surprised to find at the end of my input into the spreadsheet that I only have a bit over 23K rounds of assorted munitions. Time to buy more I guess.

Been using MTM boxes to organize my ammo for years. They work great since I used different colors for range, defense, and specialty ammo.
The 50 and 100 rounds are what I mostly use and the ammo wallets for spare ammo close by.

23k is relative. If you have 23k of .308 and 5.56, not bad. If you have 23k of .22 and or 9mm, you're almost out and better get to stocking up!
I know three people of the gun who each have much more than a million rounds in their personal stash and they aren't rich. Just know how to build a lifetime stash and began a few decades ago when ammo was cheap.

I agree, a friend of mines Dad that is still a FFL dealer has over 2 million rounds in a warehouse he has. Some really high dollar stuff too for his various legal weapons that will really eat through it if used.

I personally have a number I know I will never shoot in my lifetime.

I will not cross that number. Hoarding is a problem for more that we like to admit.

Think of all that crap folks collect, and at the end of the day it's not appreciated in value more than simply investing in the stock market. So it's not about smarts and money, it's about just buying crap one wants to own.

I get to shoot as many as three times a week all the ammo I want and I'm know I'll never even need 1/4 of a million rounds.

That would take me weeks if I started from scratch. All my crap is spread out in several locations. Paranoia from being robbed multiple times of thousands and thousands of rounds.

Ditto. I bought a lot I knew I probably didn't need or would ever shoot, when it was cheap, on sale, or had rebates. I re-sold several thousands of those during the ammo panic. I figure that a certain amount will also be somehow stolen sometime.

if your wife and kids are uneducated by you about value then yes this will happen.

My wife is up to game on value and my kids are not born yet but will know once they are, so are my parents.... you wont see my mom shoveling my stash out for pennies.

Want to leave them an investment, buy a Fidelity index funds that tracks the S&P 500. Ammo is meant to be shot.

It's everyone else's fault he wasn't prepared for the shortage.
