    Trim-it II reviews

Hey guys, what's the latest word on these. I see a lot of old info.

What are you guys using to drive these. It seems that a drill press would work but all of the shavings will be dropping down towards the collar.

    Thanks

Okay, so let me ask what you guys are using to spin your Guiaud Tri-Way trimmer. I'm guessing they both use around the same RPM.

I've seen some small bench grinders used but I think they spin too fast. A free standing motor would be nice. A small motor connected to the Trim-it mounted to some hardwood sounds good.

I use the Harbor Freight $9,99 special drill.
Clamp it in the vise and use zip ties on the trigger. Do not spin it fast.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

I run my Giraud on a 3/4hp 1500 rpm motor (it was free) it's almost silent and has plenty of power to chew through anything. It's mounted under the bench so the shaft and TriWay are just above the bench.

So far I'm astonished how long the cutter has lasted. I'm on five gallon bucket number 6 of 223.

baranski, that's a nice setup. I was thinking about using a fan motor but I didn't think it's going to have enough torque.

            Thanks for the ideas

                Box.

I have an old Craftsman drill press, I'm covered there. I'm just concerned about how much it will pollute the dies with shavings going in from the bottom. I'm probably over thinking it.

OH MY!! I just ordered a 1000 once fired. I might be able to load half a bucket, and I thought that I had a lot of reloading components...just a guess here..30# of powder needed for each bucket?

In most cutting operations, lower speed is better than higher speed.
You need to form a proper chip not a bunch of chatter.

When you are going so fast that you can't push the cutter hard enough to actually make chips, you are just smearing the cut instead of actually forming a chip.
So slow down to like 250-500 RPM and push the case into the cutter fast enough that you get actual chips and not dust.
Get a drill press and a Lyman or forester trimmer base.

Then setup the quill stop or use a trimmer head that indexes off the case shoulder.
The lyman drill press trimming base is the quickest way to grab and release a case as it self tightens as you cut.

Love my TI2’s. I have one set up for 223 and 308. I put the drill in a vise with the chuck pointed up. You have to do it this way if you are doing high volumes because brass chips will get between the shoulder stop and the shoulder of the brass case and you wont get an accurate cut.

Once they are set up to length and inside and outside chamfers are dialed its nice having it done in one pass.

I have a cheap $30 drill press I took off the base and flipped upside down. Works great with my triways.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

This is what I was thinking. I'll go to HF this weekend and find something.

I ordered the unit from Black Widow Shooters Supply on the 21st. I've sent emails and called, no luck getting a response.
