HP38, Titegroup, & Bullseye powder & CCI 500 SPP. I also paid attention to what was on the ground on range trips & managed to scrounge about 200 pieces of 38 Special brass...

Checking out X-treme & Berry's Bullets for 1000 count in either 125 or 158 grain FP plated bullets. I did print up data from Alliant & Hodgdon websites & have a Lyman's 49th Edition Reloading Bible for reference...

I hand prime & reload with a Lee Turret Press...

I know I can work this out but I also know there is skill in here and open to suggestions for some home rolled plinking ammo...

I used 700X for years with the 147/148 grain HBWC

This was the first stuff I loaded unsupervised as a kid... my dad preferred larger volume powder so one would hopefully not make a dumb mistake...

like setting the powder measure one time to 12 grains not 10.2 grains while loading the 44

I loaded on a single stage press so I would look down on the powder... never had a double charge... but I always checked before seating...

Some love bullseye as a little powder goes a long way

I broke from the book and load mine 3/16" proud of the case... easy to spot empties from loaded ammo

        I was looking at these
        https://www.precisiondelta.com/produ...148gr-hbwc-ml/
Once upon a time I came across a store that was clearing out Blazer aluminum case HBWC in a cool little plastic ammo can. I never was a bullseye shooter so I had never shot anything like that, but the price on these was crazy low, like .22 price low. How could I refuse? They had virtually no recoil. Less than .22 recoil in my Damn Wesson.

But OP, you have to try some Magnums. It's a Magnum revolver. At least load up some 1000 fps loads in the .38 cases if you don't have any Magnum cases.

You can't go wrong with what AR15 Barrels stated. I've used Alliant Powders like Bullseye, Unique, and BlueDot for decades and see no reason to change now.

I mostly load bullseye for 38 special target. I shoot a lot of 148 HBWC. Never really found Bullseye to be position sensitive (at least from a seat of the pants meter).

                It's an "N" frame. I wouldn't worry about recoil.

Double charges won't happen if your method is sound.

If you don't own Trailboss powder now, your pretty much out of luck. Production has stopped by ADI in Australia for this powder. There's no set time of when or if it will return.

I like the slower speeds in the 38 as I don't worry about lead build up...

I also use the birtchwood casey lead removal cloth as a patch to remove lead from the forcing cone, end of the cylinder and the bore...

if you shoot lead, you might LOVE this product

                      Plink all day.

                      2.2 700x behind 148 WC

                      2.3 HP38 behind 158 SWC.

That's out of an 8" barrel.

Drop a .1 for the shorter barrel.
