So, went out by myself shooting. Friend flaked. Going to test the experimental .308/.223 SABOT projectiles in a 30-06 case. (task 1) 6 with 25 grains of TCM 6 with 30. Toilet paper to keep it tight in the case. high 2900 to mid 3400. First 6 no issue. I did notice some were keyholing in ten yards, some not. Let's back up a little. Chrono too close to line of sight. Lower it a bit, no problem. shoot 3 more. DAMMIT!!! Shot the chrono. Wait, look. No exit hole. HMM??? No entrance hole!!?? AAARRGH. The SABOT, coming off smacked the face. Big dent and broke the LCD inside. Even the petals were imprinted in the plastic. however, it did not penetrate. So, I am off to hunt a 4 figure LCD display on EBay. I think I can repair it.
After that, I finished the 100yard zero on the other rifle. (Task 2)
After that, picked up 2 large bags of targets/trash. (task 3) Then left.
NOTE TO SELF: add THICK plexiglas attached to front of repaired chrono and set up closer to muzzle to avoid SABOT damage in future.
