    San Diego Ammo Sources

I recall there being an established thread on ammo prices/availability for each county? Am I just looking in the wrong places?

Well, anyways, grabbed a 100 box of Federal American Eagle 55 gr .223 for $80.00 recently from Big 5. ($.80 rd)

    How'd I do?

Anyone have deals to share, or is it luck of the draw on inventory?

I feel like I've seen full shelves at the gun stores I've been to lately, even though I might not like the prices...lol.

I just had a look at Ammoseek. There's one place with Federal at around 37 cents and then several selling PMC at around 48 cents. Lots of foreign stuff including Tulamo and Wolf for well below 48 cents but it's all steel case.

OP, I found one outfit selling what you bought and their price was 75 cents per round.

Thanks for the price check - I appreciate it. Sounds like I paid pretty much on the upper end of the price spectrum.

I'll have to look into Ammoseek.

          Yeah, thanks for the info.

I actually walked into that store for the first time a month or two ago, on a whim, since I was in the area, and I don't know - very strange vibe. Did it feel that way to you? Guys asked for ID as soon as I walked in, which I gave to them, since I thought it might be store policy...and proceeded to start scanning it to do a background check.

I laughed, and was like, "whoah there, buddy - mind if I ask you about pricing/inventory? I'm looking for some .308 and 5.56..."

He's like "sure thing, how much of each do you want - we have both."

I was like, "Kinda depends on how much they cost, I guess?"

He gave me a few prices and tapped my ID on it's side on the counter, impatiently, "tap, tap, tap, tap" - while I punched in the math to break down the per round cost. I realized he was doing that, looking at me, and I looked up from my phone and said,

"Sir, if you something better to do, that's fine. This is the first time I've been in here, and I'm just trying to get a feel for how much you're charging and how much I'd want to buy."

(understand there were like 4 total people waiting, including me, 2 of which were being helped by another clerk)

He rolled his eyes and walked over to his computer with such dramatic flair, i chuckled, said "thanks anyways, can I have my ID back." and just strolled out feeling like a toolbag for apparently being a very frustrating customer. So, anywho, even tho it was a weird experience and their prices were pretty steep - I will say that they did have an impressive inventory of normal stuff.

Might just end up buying in bulk, sent to an FFL. Cheapest way i can find.

.36cents per round for Wolf 55gr aint too bad.

Get a Prime membership (with a buddy, if you need to) at Target Sports USA and call it a day.

M2Mars I did feel the same, the guys there definitely give off the vibe they are doing you a huge favor. I called ahead so I knew they had what I wanted and I knew the price. Seeing that no other shop had it in stock and online the ammo was more expensive, I just purchased what I needed.

First of all, love the screen-name.

Second, yessir, that's the site I was on. Seems like a very doable process via a local FFL, as long as TS-USA has what i'm looking for.

                  thanks!

LOL yeah, that's a good way to describe it. And yeah, gotta do what you gotta do when pickin's are slim.
