Embarrassed to report that I figured out the problem, the problem the nut between the stool and the loading bench, meaning “Me”.
Turns out I had gotten my shell holders mixed up. I was trying to use the shell holder, RCBS #10, which is for the 204 Ruger cartridge, instead of the one designed for the 17 Hornet (RCBS #12). The American Eagle 17 Hornet cases fit in the RCBS #10 holder without issue but the Hornady 17 Hornet cases will not. Both fit in to the RCBS #12 shell holder without issue. What a relief. Can get back to loading now.
Funny thing is others on various forums have reported having this problem with Hornady cases. Maybe they mixed up their case holders too but failed to report back.Comment
