    Reloading bench question

So, I have to be mobile and flexible as to where i am reloading so i'm looking at caster benches that are 40" x 24" for each press, of which I have 2. A Mark7 Apex 10 for reloading and a Dillon XL 750 for processing.

my question is, if you had a 4 foot bench and were going to mount 1 press, where would you mount it? dead center? off to the left? to the right?

and then as far as the front placement, would you mount the press to be at the very front of the bench or would you mount it back a bit? (i have a universal mount for the Mark7, and a strong mount for the XL750....if that makes any difference).

and lastly, what height do you prefer to have your bench top set at? the ones i'm looking at are adjustable from 30" to 40".

and again, second lastly, can anyone recommend a good work stool that is comfortalbe for sitting for hours at a time?

    Thanks!
    John

Are you going to mount directly to the bench ? Or use a inlinefabrication mount ?
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Dead center or a smidge offset to the right leaving more room for components and stuff to the left. I mount mine by lowering the lever all the way and pushing mount back until lever barely clears the bench.

I'm left handed and prefer my press on the right side of the bench so there is some open space and room to work.

I’m right handed inlinefabercation top mount flush. Favored the left but not at the end of the bench left a little of room I believe about 18” for bullets brass and books.
The right side open for a working area.

I mount about 2ft off to the side to leave room for anything else. And as far forward as needed for the handle in the all the way down position

Get an RCBS press and bolt it to their optional aluminum mount plate. Then with 2 small C-clamps, you can easily mount the press anywhere, whether indoors or in the garage. Plus you won't need to drill holes in your loading bench.

i got a strong-mount XL750 mount, which is raised about 8-10" or so, and a Lyman universal press stand, that looks similar to the 750 mount. see attached photo

i'm left handed but since i've been using a right-handed mouse for 25 years, my right hand seems to be more agile (not necessarily stronger).

i thought about getting a 6' bench and mounting both to that. what would be a good spacing for that scenario? 2 or 3 feet between?

Since they are.on stands. I would just put both on the benches and calculate how you would put your supplies on the bench. And move the press to.where it suits you.

I agree. Mount it in a place that suits the way you work.

I got the Harbor Freight workbench and setup my single stage Rock Chucker on one end and my Square Deal B on the other. This leaves the center of the bench open for workspace. I use my office chair to sit on while loading.

I am 6'4" and I don't feel uncomfortable with the ergonomics of this setup. I've never stood to reload- always worked from a seated position. That said, my presses are not on stongmounts or otherwise elevated mounts, so YMMV.

                        Good luck!

yeah. that's really the best idea. I"m just unsure of the space i'm going to have and i have to consider the fact that i live in Las Vegas and I will be too hot to work in there in the summer months, unless I get a portable air conditioner what is non "swamp-cooler" type that would rust the equipment.....so i might need to roll the bench into my front room (empty) in the summer and then back into the garage in the winter, or do processing in the garage and loading in the livingroom. so i just am trying to make a decision on weather to go 4-feet benches or one 4-foot as a work area and one 6-foot (to mount both presses on)

i'm not even sure which arm i'll be using yet. i'm guessing that the the handles are easliy swapped from right to left so i could switch if either arm gets tired.

anyone have a recommendation for a comfortable stool? still need to get one of those. other than that i'm just waiting for an Mark7 tool head and the mark7 primerXpress. they could show up next week or next month or much longer. i'm at the mercy of "back-order" monster!

I got the same workbench! Very solid (as you said strong mounts are not necessary) and it was less than $200 when I bought it and I think the delivery was included.
