Reloading 7mm-08 with .308 brass.

Use an RCBS Rockchucker. Plenty of leverage to form the brass. I used to do 7.65 Argentine and 8mm Mauser along with 7.7 Jap using 30-06 brass.
Get yourself a RCBS stuck case remover. You'll need it a couple times until you figure out the right amount of lube.

You certainly can form 7mm-08 brass from .308 Win. That's how the wildcatters did it for decades before Remington made it a standard chambering in 1980. The 7mm-08 is a good round; think of it as kinda-sorta the 6.5 Creedmoor before there was a 6.5 Creedmoor. It's flat shooting, lower recoil than the .308 with typical weight bullets, and a fine deer cartridge.

But consider, there's available brass in 7mm-08 now, from several vendors. Unless you have to do it, why bother forming the cases these days, unless your friend just wants to learn how to do it? If so, then the 7mm-08 forming is one of the easier ones to learn and practice on.

It's no problem...just run the 308 brass through the 7/08 sizer and got to town.
One thing....I found LC Military Brass to be too stiff to use for this purpose.
(some is even very tough to resize back to 308)
You may have to anneal if thats the case

I had a 7mm-08 because everyone said how great it was. After I had it awhile I got rid of it. Factory ammo was 140 gr. Factory .308 ammo is 147-150 gr. Not much difference, except in the cost.

^^ Factory ammo, you're right. Might as well go with .308 Win, then.

The advantage of a 7mm-08 or any similar round comes into its own when you roll your own. When you do, then you can load up with really high-BC bullets for the weight and get a flatter-shooting round.

It’ll work, but why not just use 7mm-08 brass? Is it because you can’t find any or have tons of 308 laying around?
