Hey Will, there are some really good reloading books out there. Also a lot of good videos on Youtube..

I'd bet the guys here will want a little more info on the gun/s you plan to use.

    Good luck.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

357 puff rounds are called .38s.

When I first started I used to load 125g with 7.8g of Bullseye. The first box of 357s at the store I found were Hornady Critical Defense....

        Now I shoot 158g with 6.5.

            Tabasco,
            I appreciate your comment.
I see I should start with Bullseye and 125gr bullets I have 2 questions.
            1. Can I use 9mm bullet?
            2. What type of primmer SPP or LPP or Magnum SPP if there such a thing?

Small pistol primers. Magnum or not depends on the powder, generally. I don't use magnum primers.
I use a lot of Unique, with cast and jacketed bullets. It's a good mid level powder, that won't beat you up, but you're not shooting warm 38 Special loads

I started off with titegroup, not ideal because of the potential for double charges but it works and is extremely economically advantageous.

If you're starting off in reloading and need a recipe, you also need a book. I like Lyman, or Hornady, or the ABCs book. Really any book. If you choose to skip a reloading manual, a bible may help.

You should NOT use 9mm bullets unless it's a life and death emergency and it measures over .355. It won't crimp tight which means you'll get bullet protrusion after some hard shooting which might cause a cylinder lockup later.

I have always used regular primers also. I now have some magnum primers because of the shortage, but I am not a competitive shooter so it makes no difference to me.

I do like the strategy of using a powder that fills the case. I have never double charged it.

PLEASE consult published reloading data and study this activity carefully before you get started. This data is available on-line from established bullet and powder companies as well as from hard bound manuals. There are a lot of variables to consider before putting rounds together for whatever purpose.

Most of us shoot 38 special for target purposes in 357 revolvers. Just clean the cylinders on occasion so you don't build up schmutz that can interfere with loading a longer magnum shell.

Some of us do not. I load .357 cases to .38 Special (or .38 Special +P) levels to keep from contaminating the chambers. No need to brush them with that method.

                            I realize some do.

The only time I've found any issue (and that was slight) was extended sessions with conventionally lubed cast bullets. Jacketed, plated, moly (and I suspect PC), not.
