hello everyone, im new to reloading was wondering if someone can answer a few questions.

1. is the price of reloading the same as buying ammo?

2. can i ship reloading supplys home? is it still considered ammo? do i have to ship it to a gun store?

3. having ammo shortage, are primers nd powder and other supplies needed in shortage also?

1. No, generally you can produce significantly more ammo for the same amount of money.

2. Yes. There are usually additional fees for shipping, but it is not regulated like ammunition.

3. Yes. This has significantly increased the cost, and primers in particular are harder to find.

In regards to question #1, it is cheaper to make your own.

It does have an initial investment cost. But if you amortize that over time, the cost is not that much. In my case, most of my setup was bought almost 35 years ago. While it was hundreds of dollars, if you consider the use over 35 years, and the savings over thousands of rounds, it is worth it.

That's something to consider when you see the initial sticker shock of getting set up.

#1....sort of. As mentioned the initial investment is there but then you load even more so in the end you spend the same. But you do get to shoot more!

Just got out of jail or a coma been talked about on here for years, Use search reloading cheaper. Watch for deals on primers. That is most expensive hard to find component now. Buy a single stage press to start. Never a hand press. What calibers will you be loading for? PM me when you are ready. Been loading for 56 years.

There is no good time to get into reloading, you just have to commit. Prices are realitive for the most part. Remember 9mm was $1 a round and everyone scoffed at loading pistol calibers, until now, and I'm enjoying my .15 9mm Hornady Loads. As the calibers go up the more you can save per round, as well as precision rounds.

You need to check Midway and Brownells every day for primers as they are the only sites I have found with consistant low level stock but they usually only have 1 or 2 types of primers for sale at any given time. Brownells seems to have a good supply chain for CCI White Box's, but be prepared to spend 100 each 1k (Shipping and hazmat included). Depending what you are reloading the powders available will work but might not have access to the best. Hodgen website is where I got lucky for some powders and they have a 5 item limit per type so you can get either 8lbs or 1lb lots x5. Projectiles might be an issue as well depending.

PV, Grafs and Midsouth I have seen have best prices on Projectiles. PV Has best powder prices but rarely have any in stock.
