Have you tried this (Ca hunters)

Just curious to the possibilities of this adventure.

They can be turned on a lathe.

You'd have to copy the design from one of the big bullet makers unless you've been sneaking out to ballistics night school.

How much time and effort are you willing to put into each shot?

Let somebody else do the work.

Monolithic, solid copper and brass lathe-turned bullets for hunting and match use. Our bullets are the #1 used bullet in extreme long-range shooting competitions. Whether you're hunting or competing, we have a bullet line to suit your needs.

Most people aren't making lead bullets for 1000yd competitions. They are crudely made lead cast in a mold and sometimes coated. If you're going to do something like it then it will be for short to medium range minute of deer accuracy at best. I believe that some are even CNC machined because melting copper requires higher temps.

According to Google, lead melting point is 621 where copper is 1984.
      What a coin incidence...

        Try casting with zinc.
Reloading Supplies of all types (PRESSES, POWDERS, PRIMERS, DIES, BRASS, MANUEL'S, TRIMMERS, LEAD, CASTING EQUIPMENT AND MORE) (NEW, USED, OLD, VINTAGE, DISCONTINUED, HARD TO FIND)
        WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Do you have access to a CNC lathe ?
If not. You wont make two the same.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Here's how I would pencil out the cost:

Last time I looked, 150 grain .308 diameter Hornady copper bullets were running around 80 cents apiece. I might use ten of them each season to zero my rifle and then shoot a critter or two. If I'm lucky I'll get to hunt for another 15 years, so I can expect to spend around $120 on copper bullets for larger game over that time period.

How much does a CNC machine cost if you don't have one and how much are you going to spend on copper wire that's compliant?

I practice with Hornady .308 FMJ bullets I can buy for about 20 cents apiece.

The biggest drawback to using factory anything right now is being able to get your hands on it but I still wouldn't even think about making copper bullets unless I had the equipment and didn't care about the money, in which case it would be a science experiment.

Good cost benefit analysis. This all goes out the window if we all of a sudden ran out of lead or if some kind of legislation came about where lead was illegal for the U.S. and/or the world cause it causes super covid. Then the man with the $1000 cnc machine is the big winner.

Then there is the problem of you needing to have them on the list of Ca approved bullets for hunting to be legal to use hunting.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

^^^ Only one who got it right. Not legal for hunting n Ca where did that idea come from? All projectiles must be approved in ca.

You could cast bullets for hunting in California out of bismuth, a/c pewter, r92 pewter, r98 pewter, zamak2 and zamak3.

A machinist buddy of mine seems to think he can make them pretty cheap if he had the willingness to do so. He is not willing LOL
