Surplus eventually gets exhausted when they don't make any more and everyone buys it up and shoots it. That and since the AWB expired in 2k4, there are a lot more rifles out there shooting a limited supply of ammo. Put together with the fact that there is now a conflict we are fully engaged in, in another country. Surplus was stuff made and then sold because it expired in storage. They are currently making and shooting all they can. Once the hostilities end, there may one day be a surplus, but not till we're out of where we are currently.

Perfect reason why everyone with military caliber rifles should pick up surplus when it's available on the market.

But don't fret there will be some more surplus ammo in the future. People always freak out when the supply dries up, but a new supply always pops up (Aussie, Port, SA, ?).

Try shooting AE .308 in the meantime.
