We may have something here that is similiar

But if not I wanted to post a useful link to a reloading cost calculator on one of our local sites.

They always forget about labor. Even if retired or it's a day off, one would be robbing Peter...

Unless you want the Feds all "up in ur bidnez" trying to tax your labor income, consider it as a "labor of love."

If you can't figure out on your own how much it costs to reload ammo, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

My hobby is knocking targets at tange, blasting tannerite, unloading into multiple targets running and gunning. Reloading is just a means to an end.

My post was at least as productive as yours. In fact, I'm saving lives here.

So how much do you charge per hour for shooting the ammo?

Charging labor to reload is a load.

I was just deciding to take the plunge into reloading, read books, watched lots of videos for last 6 months, talked to folks at my local club. Have not invested in any tools and equipment yet. Using that calculator comes out to about 44 cents per round of 9mm at current prices for primer/powder. It will be a hobby after I retire in couple years.

And right now you can 9mm for .40 a round including shipping and a free ammo box so not sure where the savings are.

I am new to reloading and have a different calculation with components as follows: bullets @ 112.00 per 1,000; powder at $143.00 per 4 lbs; primers at $193.75 per 2,000 from Brownells; brass is $0.00 for collected range brass and my previous spent factory brass.

                              This yields:

                              Overall Cost
                              $0.234 per round
                              $4.68 per 20 round box
                              $11.70 per 50 round box
                              $234.00 per 1000 round lot

At $0.234 per round vs $0.40 - $0.60 store 9mm pricing or $0.76 per round if purchased at my range's prices. I think reloading is a good deal!

I was at the range on Wednesday and shot 182 rounds of 9mm. I am new to reloading and am trying to "ladder" my loads across three different 9mm firearms and see what they like plus practice. These 182 rounds cost me about $42.59 and I figure I got to shoot 2 to 3 times more rounds then the guy next to be with store bought ammo. In fact, I had arrived at the range at about 11:00 AM and at about 3:30 PM the range officer asked me how I could afford to be there so long. My answer was affordable self-made ammo and the needs to test it in 3 - 9mm firearms plus sight-in 2 other .22 rifles with either a new scope or new rings plus the need to practice.

So yes, I think there are savings and, for now at current prices, it is worth it to me!

( Note: if I can ever get some cheaper primers it will be more worth it!!! )
