Interactive caliber conversion app for the Dillon 650 and 550 (update!)

So, towards the middle of last week I resolved that I was finally going to get beyond sketching out database schemas, and I was actually going to WRITE this application.

It's an interactive caliber conversion lookup for the Dillon 550 and 650. Tell it which calibers you have, and the calibers you want, and it will compute which INDIVIDUAL parts you would need in order to get the calibers you want. So, if you're only a locator button and a station 1 locator away from a different caliber, this application will tell you. Or if you happen to have the parts you need already, it'll make sure you know about it.

BTW, make sure you click 'Spreadsheet View' and 'Compute Conversion' modes - you get more info in Compute mode (SKU, etc) but you get a better overview in Spreadsheet mode. I may one of these days set it up so that you can print a quick-reference PDF to hang by your reloading station... just the calibers you have.

The combination of The Gun Wiki to our system is not only in line with what we are working on, but will also serve as a means in which to build upon our ongoing projects.

YES, the system is multiple machine and multiple manufacturer aware.

I'm hassling Dillon right now to see if I can get an "add parts to cart" option interacting with their website...

More calibers are coming... priority will be given to calibers requested in the thread.

Update, 7/10/09: It does the 550 too now. Next up: 1050 or Square Deal...

Cool, nice work! I like this one better than the one you have to download. Would the .40 and 10mm parts needed be the same?

Thanks! Yes, 10mm and 40S&W use the same exact caliber conversion kit.

And... there's one you can download? You mean the Dillon owner's manual, or did someone put together a spreadsheet for it?

That only works if you do windows. Grammaton, your conversion didn't include the large rifle wheel for the case feeder, so I can do .308 or 30-06.
Nice to know I only need a couple little parts for the conversion. Well, besides a set of lee dies.....

man you've been working lots of new calibers added. Could you add .45 colt please?

Whoops found it, thanks. One suggestion add 10mm to .40 s&w like .38/.357 .454/.45LC

Hey now, there are a lot of us who don't like the stench of the Microsloth "air" ... if you can somehow keep your biological processes running under the power of Mr. Gates' flatuence, then more power to ya. The rest of us have better air.

Seriously though, I'm reviving the thread here because now it does the Dillon 550 too.

Next up, I guess, is Square Deal or 1050...

On a note that should surprise very few people who know me, I got ahold of the manuals for the 550 and 1050, and was unable to resist the compulsion to enter the data in for ALL of the current-production Dillon metallic reloaders. So, http://thegunwiki.com/apps/calconversion/ can handle just about any Dillon you're likely to have for handgun / rifle duty.

                        Presently that's the 1050, 650, 550, and Square Deal B

The SL-900 is a shotgun reloader is NOT in there - although I may twitch and have to enter it soon. (yes, I know brass hulls were used in the old days, but common usage these days is 'metallic' for non shotgun reloading kit)

And the Dillon 50cal reloader seems not to be in production/distribution yet. Once that thing's out, I'm going to look forward to doing data entry on 50 BMG, 50 Spotter, 416 Barrett, 460(?) Steyr, etc.

BTW, the machine CAN compare conversions from across different machines, and there ARE a few crossover parts - so if you wanna compare different machines' conversions, knock yourselves out.

Anyone want to point me at conversion data for other brands of press now? RCBS, Lee, etc... just need a chart of conversion pieces and calibers (preferably with SKU numbers)...

Cool. When I get home (I'm on vacation right now) I'll add this to my favorites. How hard would it be to combine the machines? I know that I can use the same locator buttons and powder funnels on my 550 and my 650. Also, have you thought about referencing the old 450 stuff too? I know that I have a 450 caliber conversion in .25acp that will work on my 550.

Just select the 550 and 650 both on the initial menu, and it'll present you with caliber conversions for both machines. The powder funnels and locator buttons are also shared with the 1050 as well.

The 550 manual says, "450/550 conversions" - so I am pretty sure you would just click "have" for the 450's 25ACP conversion.
