    Reloading question

I'm looking to reload some 45 acp.

My RCBS dies are waiting on parts and I have a dillon square deal b with 45 colt dies.

Could I size, bell, seat, and crimp 45acp rounds with my 45 colt dies?

    Thanks in advance

The shellholder is a bit different. On my lee it's #2 for ACP and #11 for Colt/AE/454.

I would size one without belling and seeing if it will plunk in your barrel. Then bell and when you crimp, make sure it's a good one cause I think someone said the 45C bullet is bigger.

dont think you could get deep enough for a crimp and 45 i only crimp enough to take the bell off maybe a smidge more

i'm not even sure 45 colt sizes down the same

Right, the crimp can only be done when the ACP die comes. But OP wants to prep. Also, you'll have to screw down the belling part of your current 45C die, then go back to it when you need to load 45C in the future.

So I decided to try it on my setup and it worked for me and my 1911. The shellholder that I used was the same as a 308/6.5CM and of course the ACP. All the same on a Lee.

Don't think you can crimp 45ACP in LC die.

CORRECT, the LC die is a bit over 9/32" longer inside, so an acp case can't reach the crimp step in the ID.

Not familiar with Dillon products. But "IF" you can kick it out of gear for single stage operation.

You can utilize the radiused entrance to the LC sizer die opening, to "JUST" iron out the bell. Returning the acp mouth to straight wall.

As I said, you can't crimp. You can "debell", as you described.

The simplest method is to wait until you have the correct dies. Lot fewer headaches and kludges. If that's not acceptable, borrow a set from a friend.

Understood. And simply complying with OPs ?

Now after rereading posts. I have a comment in relation to this opine by Tobasco.

Long ago the LC and ACP used different dia slugs. LC was .454 and ACP was .452. IIRC that changed to a standardized dia back in the 1960s. And gun makers make both with .452" bores since.

Best if OP measure his expander to determine which. Or run a few and check for interference fit of his bullets.

I use lee 45 colt dies to reload 45 acp. Everything will work but you also need a 45 acp crimp die.
