Just remove the retaining bolt on the tube collar, pull out the old assembly, replace it with the new, and then reassemble.
Bolt #28 in the diagram:

Forgive my ignorance but how does taking out #28 bolt help me remove part #66Comment
-
Well, it doesn't.
When you said "old wad guide rod", I assumed you were talking about part #26. That is the tube that pushes the wad down into the case and drops the shot. You need to replace part #66?

Looking at mine, part #66 rides on a roll pin (part #56) that is press fit up at the top. You can drift that pin out from the back. You might have to remove the shot drop tube assembly to do it, but that is pretty easy to do.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Loosen the 28 bolt in 27.
Withdraw 2 and 26.
Drive out 56.
Swap out 66.
Reinstall 56.
Reinstall 27, 26 & 2.
Readjust 26 and tighten 28 into 27.Randall Rausch

Yeah...... that's what I was trying to point out. Taking these presses apart isn't difficult, as they really aren't complicated. The last thing I'd do is to go cutting stuff off when a simple remove/replace can be done.
As an aside - the MEC 600jr's are everywhere, and frequently can be had for $50. I've passed on several, as I already have two and do not need more.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
