    Spent primers

Just wondering what everyone does with their collection of spent primers. Toss them in the trash / recycle?

There's a new panic and run for bullets because of Russian sanctions on weapons and ammo, so probably save them so they can be reloaded with priming compound...

I just pitch them into the trash after I finish de-priming.

They contain lead. I put them in an small empty coffee can, along with used batteries, and take them to a county hazmat roundup once a year.

I re-use them when I’m hydroforming new brass.

I haven't done it, but I've heard of folks taking them for recycling and getting paid for them, same as junk brass? But from the readings I've seen on it, it's also somewhat hard to find a place that will take them and brass. I've got a hundred pounds or more of brass and primers in sealed buckets outside that will probably just get tossed some day, but if I hear of a place that will recycle them that is a reasonable distance away...

No sanctioms on current contracts for russian ammo. Only when contracts end. Some nummies just cannot get it right.

The last time I took brass to the recycler (in Reno) about 15 months ago I got $1.10/lb for centerfire and $.90 for rimfire. The proceeds were more than enough to buy a pound of powder or a box (1k) of primers at pre-pandemic prices.

Have not tried primers yet but I will next trip.

If you can't get a recycler to take them, see if the local landfill will take them as hazmat.

They go in with my junk brass which gets sold.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

Mix them in with scrap brass and take them to a recycler.

Never know when you will need cups and anvils to reprime.

A few years ago I brought in a number of 12 oz water bottles filled with rifle and pistol used primers and cashed them in along with .22 and scrapped cartridge brass. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I got for the primers. Probably enough for a pound of powder or 1k box of primers like Jack said. Absolutely no additional work because the water bottles were taped to the bottom of the hose that dropped the spent primers from the press. When they were full, just screw on a cap and put them aside for the trip to the scrap metal place.
