RCBS Uniflow 3 setting question

Hi...I recently set up my new RCBS uniflow 3 powder measure and have a problem. I was setting W231 at 4.3 grains and the threaded rod that shows the grain setting is only showing about 1.5 grains. When I set it to 4.3 grains to start and checked it with my Ohaus beam scale, it was way off...after reducing the threaded rod lower and lower, I was able to finally get a repeatable powder throw. According to the directions, I should be able to set the rod at close to the required number and check from there. Any idea????

The numbering system in the rod is not set to measure in grains of powder. It is a scale to use. Your 1.5 on the rod throws 4.3 grains of 231.

Write that down in a notebook and you can go back to that setting later after you've adjusted the measure for another powder.

I use the micrometer on my old Uniflow. I have dozens of powders and powder charges noted in a notebook and can go back to those noted settings and be extremely close to the listed charges.

I have the micrometer for both drums, really handy to jot the setting down in my loading log. It isn't exact every time but very very close. Always needs a tiny tweak to be spot on.

+1 on this. It's just a number scale to get you in the ballpark, so to speak. You should always weight the charge to confirm before using.

The numeric graduations on the stem. Only designate repeatable reference points.
