Is it common for a vendor to ask you to pay with Paypal friends and Family and then send a screenshot of the transaction to show payment? I can't think of a reason not to want credit cards. I may be paranoid but I have been scammed before in other ways. Thanks

You just got scammed again. -
PayPal F&F, Venmo, Wire Transfer, Bitcoin, all scam methods.
Not to say that everyone who asks for this is a scammer, but it should raise hackles on the back of your neck if a business does not take credit cards.sigpicComment

They are probably trying to cut costs as there's a percentage that visa and paypal will take per transaction. When you pay cash at certain gas stations there's a lower price. I would do it only with family and friends and vendors who my friends and family have worked with in the past.Comment

I think a lot of vendors are trying to avoid declaring the sale for income tax purposes and directly depositing sales into their personal accounts. Had to recently get some pets groomed and flea dipped. When pets are ready They tried to get me to use Zelle or Venmo. I refused and they took a credit card. They said it was so we could have a “ contact free” pickup. This is after I walked in and dropped them off ,filled out paperwork etc. Everyone is using the Chinese virus to screw the system.Comment

^ that has more to do with crazy high credit card fees.
Scam sites have popped up recently to scam reloading components due to the shortage. This isnt people dodging tax, it's an outright scam. You pay, you receive nothing.Comment

Yes it is common. On some forums, very common. You generally will not receive product, and will not get your money back.Comment

JFYI/PSA: When you circumvent the policies of financial/banking system you'll discover that most of their policies are linked to rules/regs and laws and going around them opens you up to being a target for their enforcement. Family and Friends payments have some very specific policies tied to them and when some cubicle worker decides to look into abuse suddenly your info gets caught up in that mess. Since a lot of people buying selling G&A all over do the friends and family thing you can see what a rich target it could end up being.
With all the cyber hacks/attacks scams and other stuff going on, the last thing you need is to be that guy, the one who went around some seemingly small policy where you could have ended up violating some federal law that some cube worker decided to make a project. What happens is you open yourself up like the free counter at the adult toy store.
Circumventing banking policies usually involves tax evasion/fraud laws. Just because it doesn't say "bank" doesn't mean it isn't regulated as a bank. One thing leads to another.Let Go of the Status Quo!
Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

You paying the service fee to paypal provides *you* with buyer protection.
Scammers want you to forfeit that buyer protection so they can keep your money they just scammed you out of. Paypay WILL NOT help you if you pay F&F as very specifically outlined in their policy. People have tried to scam me a few times using paypal, and I've gotten my money back every single time.
No one will come after you for using F&F, but also no one will help you. Its exactly the same as handing over a pile of cash, theres no protections at all.
Paypal IS a bank, and they act as an escrow for small sales unless you decide you do not want that protection and use f&f, in which case its exactly like an ATM machine. Your money goes out and into someone elses pocket.Comment
