Reloaded Primers

Is anybody reloading primers with PrimAll or anything else? I have done it and have a success rate of around 95% with the PrimAll. I also have used the powder from inside of those red plastic caps and that actually worked better than the PrimeAll. I keep my factory primers for self defense ammo but I will use my reloaded primers for the range. 5 "no fires" out of 100 rounds is good enough for plinking. It takes me about an hour to make 100 reloaded primers.

Not that desperate yet, but just "because" you never know how bad things could get I started putting spent primers in a coffee can under the bench.

If the stuff in red toy caps is the same as it was decades ago, it is what we call "corrosive". It's potassium perchlorate, works well but leaves potassium chloride as a residue which attracts water. That attraction of water is what makes the primers and ammo corrosive. No problem if you clean your gun after shooting it but just make sure you clean it inside and out otherwise one day you'll take your gun out of the case and it will look like it was splattered with little red rust spots.

In reality, it's no worse than Mosin Nagant or Chi Com AK ammo. You just need to make sure to clean your guns every time you shoot with it.

We shoot about 2000 rounds a month. Making my own range ammo that might have 5 "no fires" out of 100 rounds at the range is well worth the 4 cents a round it costs me to build. Thats 40 boxes of ammo, cost me $2 a box, well worth a 5% failure rate at the range.

^^^You can get a better price for spent primers at your local metals recycler.

For some reason, they classify cartidge brass (even deprimed and cleaned) as "dirty" brass. But primers in a separate container is classed as "premium" brass.

Go figure. But they worth close to $2/lb last time I took a 5lb can to the recycler.

What does it cost you in the amount of time need to make those and then reload. Let's say $10 an hour....
