    Corn cob or walnut?

Which do you prefer for tumbling cases? I've been using corn cob almost exclusively, but was wondering about the relative merits of both media.

Thanks for your input. I apologize in advance if this has been done already, but I couldn't find anything useful when I used the "search" function......

Corn cob all day. However I do use a 4-1 mix corn to walnut for outdoor range pickup brass. It seems to last longer.

From what I've read corn cob is better for polishing, walnut is better for cleaning. Some guys use both and tumble twice.
I'm more concerned with cleaning and don't care about the polished look, so I use walnut. Plus I can get walnut pretty cheap at Petco and PetSmart.

        Walnut.

Cleans better than CC. Don't care how shiney my brass is, I want it clean.

Clean with walnut, then after sizing and deprime, get the lube off with corn cobb. The best of both worlds, clean and shiney brass.

For pistol, I only use walnut because I don't lube them.

Corn too, though I prefer Flour Tortillas...

                    Media

I've used both. I agree- walnut to clean and corn cob to polish...but I also like my brass shiny so I had a few drops of polish additive to either and they come out looking good no matter what I use. But don't overdo by adding too
much polish. It only takes a capful. The Flitz liquid works wonders.

Started out with corn cob, worked great. Tried walnut because everyone said it cleans better, which it did, but I didnt care for the dust it left on the cases, so I went back to corn cob.

                        I use both.

Step 1: 1 tumbler has walnut running for 1 hour
Step 2: Other tumbler has corn running for 1 hour
Step 3: Stop tumbler. Rotate walnut brass into corn. Corn brass into clean box and repeat the process.

I like corn as it doesn't leave dust on my brass. Walnut breaks down and gets air born. I don't want to be inhaling that lead dust into my lungs.

I tumble in my garage but always separate your brass outside.

                          Rifle Cases:
Walnut for intial clean (leaves a bit of dust)
Corn Cob to get lube off (leaves no dust)

                          Pistol Cases:
                          Whatever I'm running.

Used dryer sheet in both to collect dust.

There was another thread that mentioned using NU Finish car polish.
Bought some from Walmart and it works great. Add a cap full to your media, let it mix in for 10-15 minutes and you're good to go.
