Shipping ammo into CA?

I've read through the maze of laws for CA concerning ammo. What a mess. I moved out after the Assault Rifle ban but before the current ammo laws.

For clarification. Can I, as a resident of some state other than CA, send some ammo to a CA FFL for my son, who is a resident of CA?

Yes you can mail ammo to a ffl to transfer to anyone, family or not.

The law is pretty straight forward since it's so massively overbearing and over reaching. You can't receive ammo from anyone except the ffl, unless it's at a range and you use it all at that range that day.

The problem is that some ffl's are idiots and don't want to follow the law. You need to call first and make sure they're willing to do a legal transfer.

Or just send it ups ground.

Previous interpretation of the law shows that you can't even bring back ammo you took with you out of the state, unless you have documentation showing that it was purchased in-state.
