Tapered vs straight wad, interchangeable?

I'm making up some Fiocchi straight wall hull and have the claybusters 2118 for them, but also have a bag of 3118 tapered wads for hulls like the Win AA

Can i use the tapered wad in place of the straight wads?

they will go bang...but not recommended....the reverse is more doable...I use the claybuster equivalent to the federal 1oz wad in a AA case using 7/8 oz shot.
