    9mm AA#7 OAL

Working up some 9mm loads after several years off. Below is what I'm using.

    AA#7
    WSP
    Hornady 124gr FMJ
    Starting load 6.4
    Max load 7.4
    OAL 1.100
This is from Accurate's load data.

The accurate load data only lists WIN 124gr FMJ. Am I okay to go by that? The bullet seems to be seated really deep in the case at 1.100. Attached are a couple pics before crimping. I worked up this same load years ago and I'm 90% certain I used 1.100, but for some reason it looks short to me. Any thoughts? Also I'm assuming I didn't flare the case enough as there was more resistance than usual when seating and you can see where the bullet stretched the case. Any input would be appreciated since it's been a long time since I've been at the press.

    Thank you.

    Did you plunk test them?

For 124gr RN I load mine to 1.14.

AA #7 is a very good powder for 9MM

      Just FWIW Speer # 10 lists AA #7 8.1-9.0 max for a 124 grain GDHP OAL 1.120".

      I just finished shooting some 9MM 124 XTP loaded with AA # 7 @ 8.5 grains OAL 1.120"

      With a 124 FMJ I load to 1.130".

Nice load and I shot them in a PM 9 no problems at all.

Accurate and Hodgdon load data always seems to be on the light side.

        That's well into +p territory.

          No it's not plus P.

Plus p is a 124 grain bullet exceeding 1200 fps or a 115 grain bullet exceeding 1300 fps.

Speer's 9 grain load velocity in a 4" barrel is listed at 1180 fps the 8.1 only 1077 fps

Here's a link to a chart to show regular vs plus p.

I've loaded and shot a lot of plus p using Bluedot powder at a level I will not list here. Velocity easily exceeded 1300 fps with 115 grain Sierra jhp bullet.

Loads from data provided by Accurate will be in the 900-1,000 fps range.

Here's a previous post from May 2014 in regards to a test of AA # 7.

Ok I just got back from the range.

Here's how the test worked out.

            AA.7 Rainier 115 JHP Beretta 92

6 grains The third round failed to eject. Load is light on ejection and recoil.

6.5 grains All cases ejected, load is light, accuracy about normal for this gun and shooter.

7 grains Nice smooth ejection, well centered shots with some vertical stringing.
This was the best load overall.

7.5 grains Positive case ejection, stiffer recoil, group is starting to open up.

8 - 8.5 - 9 grains As you can imagine recoil and case ejection was getting more brisk with each increase. Groups on the target were all over the place at 9 grains. Note this test was done with Rainier bullets. I would expect better on target results with a premium bullet.

            The complete thread here.

Published oal isn't a recommendation, it's a minimum for that specific velocity and pressure. You can always safely go longer. Going shorter is where you get sketchy and unsafe.

Plunk test your gun and load them as long as they go.

                  From midway loadmap
                  9mm 124gr speer gdhp 4" barrel
                  1.138 OAL
                  Aa#7
                  8.2gr 35,000 psi 1189fps

                  Accurate 3.5
                  9mm 124gr speer gd
                  1.105 OAL
                  Aa#7 7.4gr 34,724 psi 1090fps (at 1.138 OAL 7.4 is around 29,000psi and 1068fps)
                  +P same OAL 1.105
                  7.9gr aa#7 38,257psi

The gold dot (.57) is similar in length to a xtp(.576) an xtp at 1.135 is starting to compress the powder with 8.3gr in a remington case.

There's more to loading ammo at max and saying "well, everything is good my gun didn't blow up" and "I've loaded +p and it easily exceeded 1300fps.....do you even chrono bro?

                  Speers data looks hot.

Getting a bit snippy are we.

Very unnecessary and I've been using a chrono since about 1982.

Speer data use to be hot back when #8 was the manual I used for load data.

I never post anything I have not tried and compared to factory ammunition.

So Skippy we are done. Added to my ignore list. Bye!

Well....what did they chrono at? Oh, I forgot, I'm ignored. I think I would rather trust load data from multiple sources with pressure data.

                      Sincerely,

The midway loadmap for 9mm has the hornady 124 fmj rn is that the one you have? They have it set to 1.169. You could try that and see if it will plunk and work in your magazine. That loadmap is free somewhere on the internet, I forget where I found it.

What's the oal of a factory 124? Does it plunk?

Every chamber is different. Load to YOUR chamber, not what a book says.

The 124XTP @1.065" and 7.9gn AA7 is one of my SD loads for a Micro-9. Those chrono at 1185fps. The Hornady 124FMJ is about .020" longer than the XTP and is not at all too deep in the case @1.100"
