    SRPs Interchangeable?

Newer to reloading .223/5.56 and I'm sure the questions been asked before but does it matter which SRP i use when loading? Are primers interchangeable?

I basically have a hodge-podge of SRP right now

    CCI#41 5.56
    CCI#450
    CCI#400
    Tula .223
    S&B SRP

I want to know if for the Tula 2.23 can I only use it for .223 cases and loads? Same question for CCI #41 does it only work for 5.56 cases and loads?

Skip ahead to 4:40+++ to skip the blah-blah-blah...

This is posted in at LEAST 5 of these threads...

If using striker-fired, rather than an Internal, or external hammer firearm, you might be light-strikes if using #41's, SRP's, or SPMP's, as the cups are thicker... if you have a weaker spring.

I have personally used #41's and SRP's in 9mm, and SPP's in .223/5.56 w/out issue, during the last shortage, for testing...

In a bolt gun, ALL small rifle primers can be interchanged, no matter the caliber, as long as it's not a magnum. However you can use magnum primers in all non magnums, just start your load over at minimum.

        Magnums need magnum primers.

AR rifles may puncture standard or federal primers, but overwhelmingly it's fine too. This is regardless of caliber.

Seriously you do not need to start your load over at minimum. As long as your load is u the middle range or eve over middle but a grain or 2 from max you will be fine. Do not forget how widely load data varies from book to book. If you chrono your loads and its velocity is slower by 200+ fps from stated max or even more, you aren't creating enough pressure for a magnum primer to cross the rubicon to blow up your gun.

As with everything reloading , its detail and common sense.

They are all good. Back in the last primer famine of 2009-2011, I had to switch to magnums and 41's...Found in the end that no "work back up" was needed of my loads. That includes .223, .308, and 30.06 loads.

in my experience ive not run into any problems using all brands of srp in .223 for my mini 14 and multiude of ar-clones

maybe i am lucky who knows but if you want to make 5.56 nato ammo use the military primers i guess they are tested to a higher standard for resistance to firing pin tap during loading

The answer you get from primer manufactures is the rifles with floating firing pins need a thicker cup. Ie cci 41's to prevent possibly setting off the primer when the bolt goes home. AR 15's have a floating pin.
I have use other "regular" primers before and had no issues. But that doesn't mean it can't happen. It's your choice

I have chambered more than 10's of thousands of rounds of .223, and 5.56, not to mention the .MIL M855's I handed out...
I have never seen a slam-fire in an AR. I am NOT saying it cannot happen, as I HAVE seen the primer dent, but a primer dent is only in the cup, not deeper than surface-pressure in the AR/M16A2 platform, in my experience.

FYI: In a separate thread asking about slam fires, MANY people said they have seen slam-fires first-hand in SKS rifles with 7.62x39.
