Copper primers

A friend gave me a bunch of 45 acp brass.

There were some Winchester brass with copper primers.
They will not stick to a magnet.

I've never seen these before.

Are these old, like some copper 22 cases that I have? Are these European?
Or are these the new thing in primers.

The copper primers are most likely from Russia and sold under the brand Wolf.

They are copper, not brass.

I think that Highpower790 is correct. These are reloads using primers from Wolf, or some one else.

It just blew my mind to see these.

The OP has just teed up a learning experience for the rest of us if someone who is knowledgeable about primers can explain why some types have harder cups than others.

Compared with steel, copper is a) softer, b) considerably more expensive, so I'm not sure why it would be used for primers.

In actuality, they could be either. At one time all ammo was made with primer cups made of copper. As ammo pressures increased brass became the standard. Most are nickle plated brass, but some aren't.

And BTW ........... even the anvils in modern primers are made of brass. Magnet is no go for all except "shotgun primers", which have a steel component.
