Market Place Component Pricing???
Collapse

I've made a number of transactions for components as both buyer and seller in this sub-forum. For stuff I'm selling (mostly range brass), I will look at what others ask for (and get) in terms of price, including prices charged by online retailers. That's tells me what reasonable people are willing to pay.
You can always list a price (required) and indicate how open (or not) you are to negotiation. A potential buyer can always make an offer and you can always say "no thanks".Comment

Powder goes for about 40 a pound. Primers around 100 per k. If it's in demand, at those prices they will sell reasonably quickly. Brass hasn't been impacted as much, projectiles somewhere in the middle. Factory loaded ammo is more all over the place, so harder to provide any guidance about.
I've bought and sold during this time, mostly bought but sold a few things I had stored I didn't need to make room for stuff I wanted. I just picked prices that seemed reasonable to move it quickly.
Overall while costs of reloading have increased, it's comparatively increased less than the cost of the worst impacted cartridges so remains a good deal even for someone starting from scratch today.Comment

If powder is shipped it needs a haz-mat. So best to do a face to face saleA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

If you price it like that it will surely move quickly. Those are NOT market prices. Market price for popular powders are 80-100 per pound, popular primers are just under 200 per thousand to 250 per thousand.
Market price is not when some schlub got lucky and was able to buy a hundred primers at some big box store because right place/right time. Market price is what it costs you to get the item when you need it, not standing in line 2 hours every morning for a week at opening time and hoping to score a couple boxes of primers.Comment

Haha, I just got a set of dies on ebay for $52, which was overpriced but the second one immediately went up by $6. They might have an inventory management software.Comment

It's called "dynamic pricing". Airlines use a variant called "yield management" to maximize revenue per flight.Comment

I get the recent and apparently long term B.S. going on but someone that puts a "for sale" post of what amounts to 5K primers for 800.00 is really smoking something good.NRA Life Member

Where did you get that definition of market price? That may be what you want it to be, but that's not what it is.If you price it like that it will surely move quickly. Those are NOT market prices. Market price for popular powders are 80-100 per pound, popular primers are just under 200 per thousand to 250 per thousand.
Market price is not when some schlub got lucky and was able to buy a hundred primers at some big box store because right place/right time. The market price for anything is simply what something can be sold for. The person buying that product is the one who establishes the market price. If that line is two hours long, then people will pay more for it, thus increasing the market price.
The only thing that changes is whether or not YOU are the one who pays for it and sets the price.
Good for the guys who stand in line for 2 hours, pay $30 for primers, then walk outside and selling them for a profit.
Shame on the guys who pay the ridiculous amounts.
I hope everyone can find components. I have been reloading less than three months now. It's tough, but I have been able to find what I need so far.Maurice
