    Uniflow Micrometer Screw Help

    Hello Guys,

Been trying to use my micrometer adjustment screw on my Uniflow but it keeps going off adjustment. The thimble would move after so many cycles.

When I originally received the unit, I degreased it completely, but it would make a squeaking sound. So I applied a very minute amount of lubricant where the o-ring contacts the inside of the thimble. Unfortunately, I think this lubrication is what's causing it to lose adjustment.

I have completely removed all traces of grease again, especially on the o-ring. But the squeaking has returned.

Have you guys experienced this? Any suggestions? Would dry lube work?

I have a redding powder measure and it doesn't have this problem because there is a set screw to lock in my adjustments. With the RCBS, the adjustments are only held in by the friction in the o-ring.

    Thanks in advance!

Mine stays in adjustment just fine, the drum squeaking can be solved by spraying the drum with One Shot cleaner lube, will clean and leave a dry film of lube that powder won't stick to. RCBS can probably supply you with a new o-ring, I put a very light coat of TW-25 synthetic grease on the o-ring before screwing it together.

I would replace the O-ring. Call RCBS they will most like send you a new one at no charge.

OP, is the Allen screw at the top of the thimble tight?

I used Imperial Die Wax to lube the micrometer stem on my Uniflow and have never had an issue with slippage.

        Good luck with it!

Never had or heard of the OPs uniflow lock issue before.

I wonder if he bought it used or new.

All of my original 1970s RCBS equipment has always been stone reliable. And the people at
RCBS have always been polite and professional.

Unfortunately, I'm spending my remaining reloading dollars on another green colored Brand of
reloading equipment that has not experienced any domestic manufacturing issues.
