    Subsonic 9mm load data?

Curious what you all are using for subsonic 9mm load data?

Lyman 50th stops at 147 grain. I have a bunch of those from Xtreme and Rushmore, and just picked up some Xtreme 165 grain RN. All plated.

For powder, I have Unique, Tight group and Power Pistol.

Lyman says 4.5 of power pistol under 147 grain yields about 1045 fps with 3.2 of Tightgroup yielding about 919fps. I'd prefer to use Power Pistol as I came in to more of that than I can likely ever use.

I've seen posts of guys running around 3-3.5 on both 147 and 160 grain of various powders.

I plan on loading some samples to try, but am wondering what recipes you all have found or tried that work well subsonic for powders and bullet weights I mentioned???

Just about everything 147 and all 165 will be sub.
I use red dot, w231, and ...something else but forget what, for my 147g 9mm loads. Works great.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of trying 3gr of Tightgroup for both 147 and 165 and see how they do. Gonna need to buy a chrono.

Any thoughts on a load for Power Pistol?

I believe hornady.com lists 147gr fmj data for Power Pistol.

You can load any bullets subsonic - just use less powder.

How long is the barrel you want the rounds to be sub sonic out of?

Power pistol is good for making the hottest round possible. It's loud, crazy flashy, and runs the speed up high. It's sort of loads like a novelty, it's fun.

If you're intending for quiet, PP isn't it! I like it under a 124gr at max charge for making fireballs.

I feel like such a dork. I have Sport Pistol, not Power Pistol. Never used it before. It was accidentally shipped to me. Need to use it up.

Alliant has some good posted load data for both 147 and 165 gr on website.

                    Carry on.

I think somehow the wrong powder was put into my Power Pistol bottle. It's weak, lame, and low on velocity even at max recommended loads.

                        In 9mm? Thats pretty weird!

6.0 grains of PP under a 124gr gives about 1200 fps. Alliant says max load is 6.4gr for 1150 fps, but people chrono it faster at 6.0 for whatever reason.

Getting close to the min load for me just made a mess. It wouldnt burn correctly and just sooted up the gun, so I couldnt get a reliable light load... it was just flashy hot loads or unreliability.
