    Too much Smoke

I usually reload FMJ or Berry's bullets but the only thing I can find lately are coated bullets. I was pleasantly surprised with DG Bullets shipped my order out in about a week.

Of course, the coated bullets have A LOT more smoke when shooting. Does any one have any tips on how to reduce this?

You just missed the 10% off sales on Xtreme plated and FMJ bullets.

cast bullets smoke because of the lube - coated bullets aren't lubed and thus shouldn't smoke much if at all ... OP, what are you loading & how fast/hard are you pushing it?

See above - bullets are "coated", and DG uses something called Hi-Tek. Looking at the pics on their website, I do not see any lube on the bullets.... or lube rings, for that matter.

Yeah - there shouldn't be any lube smoke from coated bullets, unless the Hi-Tek coating DB uses is the culprit. From their website:

These lead cast bullets are made from 92-6-2 alloy and are then coated in HiTek Supercoat coating. The benefits to shooting are numerous and include: The coating molecularly bonds to the bullet totally encapsulating it. Coating prevents lead to bore contact. Much less smoke compared with traditional lubed bullets.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Change powders. I load Blue Bullets a Black Bullets International with TiteGroup and not noticed any smoking issues. A different smell, though.

I shoot hi-tek coated bullets in some guns. They don't noticeably smoke IMO, but they do smell different.

                        SNS, Blue Bullets, ETC

I'll pass on all powder, polymer coated projectiles.

Although I heard Alliant Sport Pistol does a better job with those type of projectiles.

Now that would be nice! Could be a market for new powders and bullet coatings, all bacon scented.

This might be a bias because I equate polymer with plastic, but they tend to smell 'plasticky' when shot. Enough that when I first started shooting them I was worried what they'd do to my bore. I'm not worried now, as they don't do anything.

I'm using Hogdon Universal 4.5 Grs and a 124 Gr bullet. This is just a little hotter than the max load data on Hogdon so I don't know if I can go much hotter than that.

Yeah, when you start driving lead close to copper jacket velocity you're going to get that. Maybe a little less speed might help.
