Use hand primer and feel for a firm seat.Set aside anything that is not firmly seated.
      Keep it simple!

Hey OP, just curious, are you asking about rifle or pistol brass
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Sorry guys, this is once fired 30-06 brass. I'm asking about cleaning and prepping the primer pocket and flash hole. Are tools like the primer pocket uniformer and reamer, and the flash hole cleaner and uniformer necessary. What are your opinions on the Redding Case prep kit (new to the game) LOL I'm doing this all by hand...small batch loading...commercial brass...

I have personally never cleaned a primer pocket...

I just use a flathead screwdriver that fits the pocket size exactly.

according to your link I last purchased this produce on my birthday back in 2013 and a little over a year later purchased this https://www.amazon.com/RCBS-90375-Tr.../dp/B000GU6WN8

the Lyman one works & works well the issues that I had with it had nothing to do with the tool itself rather the pains in my hand that it would cause - also nothing to do with the tool & everything to do with me not getting any younger... if you are going to process in any kind of bulk you really should look into getting something a little less manual.

I have found the primer pocket gauges made by Ballistic Tools to be quite helpful and a time saver to sort out oversized pockets that are of course unacceptable.

There can be a slight issue with reamers in that with some equipment you can distort the primer pocket a bit because the centers of the reamer and the pocket are not perfectly aligned. Mostly that seems to be a question of whether or not you seek perfection because even if not perfect I haven't had a problem with them not working.

A long range champ I know, never cleaned his pockets. And he set long range records with that ammunition. But, he used Lapua match, so the pockets were all to the correct depth.

When reloading for Garands and M1a's, I have reamed pockets to depth, to ensure that I did not have a firmly seated primer that was sticking over the case head. That could cause problems in automatic weapons.

I tried flash hole reamers and gave up. All of my shooting buds just bought good brass, and loaded the stuff. The flash hole reaming probably makes a difference in a bench rest gun, but I can't off hand a bench rest gun, nor carry it into the field, so whatever they see, I won't see, even when I shot prone with a sling.
