New to me headstamp - ** ga

Anyone know who makes this 223 ammo?

    headstamp is ** ga 18

I can only assume the 18 is for 2018 (ETA my eyes suck, this is 18 not 15 as first thought)

ga doesn't ring a bell and Google AFTE search doesn't come up with a winner.

Starline I get; what's the 'star dash dash star' one?

And for the OP - did Georgia Arms ever have their own brass?

          That's ALSO a Starline variant.

I HAVE a buttload of GA Arms .223 reloads - they're always a mixture of Lake City and the occasional commercial brass headstamps. They MAKE some custom-loaded rounds (mostly in hunting rifle calibers), but I don't think they have their own headstamp...

I know this is not star line for sure.

These are all the same head stamp, so for sure manufactured.

Got a good pic. Added it to the OP.

Quite a few manufacturers will accept contracts for brass and do a custom headstamp. Might be one of those.

Cartridge Collectors has 2 entries for "GA": Grenfeil & Accles Ltd., Birmingham, UK; the second is an unknown Singapore factory. No mention of the stars.

OP, you might send a message to Starline and ask if that's theirs, but I suspect it isn't (I've never seen Starline brass with a year stamp.)

You could post it on one of the cartridge collection forums and see if you get a response.

Out of curiosity, was that brass in the OP fired out of a sand casted gun?

                    No, that's unfired.

I see lots of fired cases although I don't usually spend time trying to identify the manufacturer. What I have noticed is, .223 cases are generally labeled as such, while 5.56 cases either have a NATO stamp or the year or both or 5.56 stamped on the head. In this particular instance, I'm wondering if the photo is of a 5.56 case instead of a .223 case.

I don't recognize nor have I seen this headstamp before.

The "GA" looks similar to this one from Guardian Ammunition. Plus they both have 3 point primer stakes.

Why is there an oval firing pin strike on the primer? That looks so weird.

                            Red lacquer?

Corrosive? I seem to recall corrosive Yugo ammo using red lacquer... don't know if that narrows it down, or confuses it more.
