    Lee modern reloading manual

What barrel size is assumed for the velocity data? For 223 a 16"bbl will be slower than a 20" or 24". The load data I used is giving me much slower results than the estimated FPS from the manual. Thanks all.

It should say at the top of each section.

The Lee manual gets it's data from other sources, so there is no consistent barrel length for any given cartridge's load data.

If I can't find the length specified somewhere I just assume it's a 24 inch barrel.

I have the Lee manual 2nd edition and your not missing anything, it does not state the barrel length. I don't know if the Lyman manual states it either, but if you go to Hodgdonreloading.com web site they do always state the test barrel. Maybe a powder manufacturer is more concerned with that detail than an equipment manufacturer. I can think of a few reasons why.

It's quite possible (and would be smart) that Lee followed the SAAMI specs when developing the data.
The SAAMI established test standard barrel length for 223 is 24" per the SAAMI specs here:

223 is on page 276 of the PDF file.
