Powder storage

While looking at some powder for sale in the for sale section, I noticed that someone had asked the seller if the powder had been stored properly.

What is the proper method for storing powder?
I usually just leave it in the original container and place it on the shelf under my bench. Is that wrong?

origional container is best i guess you dont want to store it over 150 deg f or less than freezing
