OK---just checked out the Skinner sights and like what I see. Thinking the guide gun series may be just what the eye doc ordered. I have that peep sight on another weapon and I can actually see them. The guide gun set didn't have an order option so I have sent them a request for info. Thanks guys---can always count on good info here.

Skinner is a good fast sight but wont be as accurate as a receiver peep sight. Depends on your goals and expectations they are both great.

Got this marlin 336 lever I bout back around 1989. Never been able to hit the barn even if I were inside. Gosh darn thing. Even factory ammo gives me grief! Loaded up some ladders yesterday and took a friend with me today to try them out. Bullets---165 grain Missouri and 160 grain FTX. Powders---Trail Boss, Unique, Varget and BLC2. Unique and trial boss were a bust. The varget and BLC2 worked well----both 30 grains. Varget was a little smoother to shoot. Bullet didn't matter. Problem is sights on that marlin were a pain. We both had problems with sight picture. He shot high and I shot consistently low however I grouped where he was all over. I'f I hold 12 o'clock at 36 yards I won't win any awards but I'll eat. I have scoped weapons and non scoped weapons. I wanted to leave this one as a fast sweep brush gun so not planning on optics. I'll have to take it the way it is. I will go with the varget.

I have a newer 336 and never cared for the factory sights. I don't shoot great with it, but I did improve quite a bit when I switched to a peep sight with a FO front sight.

Only down side is that you have to remove/replace the hood on the front sight to install the necessary taller front post. I don't mind this, but some folks may.

If you want to spend a bit more, I think Skinner peep sights are the way to go. One day, I'll replace the sights on all of my Marlins with Skinners.

most solutions have already been listed - receiver sights like a Williams, Redding or LYman... 3031 & the .311 bullet from Missouri as it should be a micro grove barrel.

I will add that shooting it off a bench is not ideal as with irons it will tend to jump around quite a bit, if it were scoped you could lay your off hand over the top of the scope to help keep it down... you may also want to check the crown and these are not known to have the best/cleanest & I've heard things.

also you may want to look into putting a scope on it just to work up the load

I like the Ranger Precision sight compared to Skinner.

Just curious....... what was your charge of Unique? I've had real good results with it in 38-55, which is bigger than the 30-30 but more or less the parent case.
