    bring a boresnake when shooting, or clean the cylinders ASAP;
    you can minimize the buildup, dont let it dry and get caked up.

        Stainless?

        I use a lead cleaning cloth on the face of the cylinder, should work inside with a bit of scrubbing.

        Do not use if not stainless.

        As stated above, clean soon to avoid buildup.

          Use that cloth occasionally for the blackish leading on the face. Use bownells kit for serious leading on the forcing cone and barrel.

          This is carbon rings in the cylinders though. 38 specials seem to carbon heavily, likely due to the lower pressures I believe.

              toss the #9 and use a better solvent. Wipe out is great as is Patch-out. Butches Bore shine or one of the Montana products or even Shooters Choice all are so much better than #9

              OR you can just use 357 brass and load 38sp levels
              A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

                      I use dry medium bronze wool wrapped around a used bore brush. Will strip leading out of the bore efficiently too.

                          Bullseye powder for .38 Special is about as clean as a powder can burn.

                          Carbon rings are a pain. If you take a fired .357 case and chamfer the inside only you can lightly tap it into the cylinder to act as a scraper.

                          If the fit is not tight enough use the bell die to adjust. Tap the case out with a wood rod. Repeat as necessary.

                          Saves some time before brushing.

                            Brownells sells chamber brushes just for the problem you describe.
